WCIRB Proposes Close to 30% Increase in Work Comp Pure Premium

Major Increase over July 1, 2010 Recommendation of 0%.

On august 11, 2010, the California Workers Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau (WCIRB) Governing Committee released its recommendation to increase the 1/1/2011 workers' compensation Pure Premium rates, by 29.6%.

The recommended increase of 22.8% for January 1, 2010 was rejected Commissioner Poisner. This new proposed rate for 2011 is to compensate for there being no change in 2010 plus a weak economy in 2009.

Will the Insurance Commissioner accept this recommendation? How will the carriers in CA position themselves with respect to this recommendation?
